what makes us stand out.

How is the Guidepost Montessori approach different from conventional education?.

At Guidepost, we join with parents on their mission to help their child grow and live well. Together, we design an education to empower each child to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence she needs to craft an independent, flourishing life.

Though there are many differences between the conventional approach and Guidepost, here are some of the most important:

Conventional Education vs Guidepost Montessori
What is the Guidepost Mission?.

At Guidepost, our mission is to support each child in achieving her own independence. To do this, we help her gain the knowledge, build the skills, and craft the personal character she needs to flourish. Above all, our goal is to cultivate joy—in the pursuit of knowledge, in effort applied to work worth doing, in the achievements of herself and others, and in taking the steps to author her own life.

What are the outcomes of your programs?.

Montessori education is known world-wide for having positive impacts on both academics and social and emotional skills.

At Guidepost Montessori, when we design an environment to meet the developmental needs and interests of children alongside personalized care and support, the child can learn advanced skills at an accelerated pace.

Our students, for example, regularly learn to read by the time they’re 4-years-old and can perform all four math operations with 4-digit numbers by the end of their Kindergarten year.

The language and math skills of our kindergartners are on a par with what children in conventional programs learn in 3rd grade or beyond! What’s more, our students learn advanced academics joyfully—while simultaneously developing deep focus, self-discipline, and positive social skills.

Do your programs include Kindergarten?.

Yes! The third year of our Children’s House program, designed for 3- to 6-year-olds, is the capstone kindergarten year. In this year, the child has been well-prepared to experience an explosion of literacy, learn advanced math concepts, and use her hard-won ability to focus, problem-solve, and persist through challenges to then make advanced gains across the curriculum. Children who continue with Guidepost through Kindergarten are often well-ahead of their peers when they enter 1st grade.

Following elementary, students continue on to our Montessori middle and high school, the Academy of Thought & Industry: a school that combines a classical liberal arts emphasis on history and great books, and a Montessori emphasis on independence and agency.

How does Guidepost partner with parents?.

At Guidepost, we want to make the best education the best for children and parents. This is why we provide year-round, extended-day programming at no extra cost, enabling consistent and uninterrupted access to the care and developmental support parents expect. We invite you into your child’s world—with daily photo and video updates, regular milestone meetings, and parent-child events that showcase your child’s progress. We work to understand your unique context and needs, so that we can provide support for milestones at home as well as at school.

In everything we do, we strive to cultivate joy as you watch your child grow!

When our family moved here from out of state Guidepost at Broadlands became our second family. Our 3 children have absolutely thrived in this school and we have found so much peace knowing our girls are in safe, capable, hands here. Not only is the campus beautiful (love watching the lily pads bloom in the pond under the willow) but the teachers and staff are amazing! You will not find a school anywhere like this that allows for you to grow such a strong connection with your child’s teachers. We receive weekly photo updates of our children participating in various school activities, the teachers are accessible, and the staff is incredibly warm and welcoming. The school offers before care and after care and it has been a life saver for these two working parents who switch off drop off and pickup. It says something when it is so hard to get the kids to actually leave the school because they have enjoyed themselves so much they want to stay longer! The various programs allow for children to grow at their pace - for example, our middle child loves math and is able to do math with the upper elementary class. Our eldest loves art and is able to try out different arts and crafts while learning in a beautiful classroom setting filled with huge windows and natural light. Our youngest is able to visit kindergarten during parts of the week so that she is better prepared to start kindergarten and so that she continue to advance her learning. Some of our favorite school activities include the Mother’s Day and Father’s day brunches, the Parent’s night out (free childcare on a Friday night!), and the fall festival. The school does a phenomenal job of building a community - especially for those who are new to the area. We have made so many connections and made lifelong friends through this school. The summer camps are so fun! Each week the children learn about a different theme and are able to build and experiment. One year they built and flew drones, they built boats, they put on a play, etc. Every summer our children can’t wait to attend, and again, it is so hard to get them to leave! The seamless transition from school year to summer and back to school year has taken all the stress off of our family. The teachers are absolutely amazing and they are what makes this school what it is - from the primary teachers to the after school teachers, our precious babies are loved on, supported, embraced, and filled with confidence to be independent little leaders. We are so grateful to have found GP Broadlands!

I'm thrilled to recommend this school to parents seeking an alternative to public elementary education. My daughter has had an exceptional experience at this school, and the teachers and staff have been outstanding. One of the events that impressed me was the "Heroes from History" presentation. It was amazing to see how the elementary students researched a hero from history and presented it on stage to the entire school and parents. This kind of public speaking is usually not taught until later in middle or high school, but the school encourages students to develop their skills from a young age. The teachers and staff are dedicated to providing a well-rounded education beyond academics. Specifically, Ms. Nicki and Ms. Laurie are fantastic teachers devoted to their student's success. Academically, Guidepost Montessori offers a solid program that allows students to learn while having fun. The work is engaging and keeps children interested in learning. Given the excellent child-to-teacher ratio, our daughter can get the attention she needs to excel academically. The teachers are always available to answer questions and provide support. The school also ensures that parents are in the loop with transparent communication and "watch me work" sessions. The staff members, Mr. James, Ms. Libby, and Ms. Melissa, also plan exciting events and activities that keep the children engaged throughout the year and are all very kind. The school also strongly emphasizes transparent communication, which has been invaluable in keeping me informed about my daughter's progress. I highly recommend this school to any parent seeking an alternative to public elementary education. I'm so grateful that my daughter has had the opportunity to attend this school.

My daughter has been attending this school since she is 2.5 year old and she loves the school, teachers and staff! Teachers and staff are very friendly and accommodating! The staff and teachers treat the kids like a family and seem to know very well each kid and their needs and interests! My daughter's teacher is amazing and has a way to teach every kid in a special way! During COVID, the protocols and safety this school followed made us feel comfortable sending her back to school full time!

I had a blast performing at this school today. The administration led by James and Libby we’re terrific, friendly, welcoming and the experience was 10 out of 10. As a former teacher and now a full time entertainer for the past 30 years, that goes to lots of schools, I could tell immediately that everyone there is in the right profession. Very well run program.

My husband and I took a virtual tour of Guidepost, which far surpassed our expectations. The tour was short and simple but gave us the opportunity to see the classrooms and playgrounds and to ask all of our questions about the school. Ms. Becca was thoughtful, sweet, and thorough in her responses, and we developed a very good sense of the school's fit for our needs. Highly recommend!
