what makes us stand out.

How is the Guidepost Montessori approach different from conventional education?.

At Guidepost, we join with parents on their mission to help their child grow and live well. Together, we design an education to empower each child to build the knowledge, skills, and confidence she needs to craft an independent, flourishing life.

Though there are many differences between the conventional approach and Guidepost, here are some of the most important:

Conventional Education vs Guidepost Montessori
What is the Guidepost Mission?.

At Guidepost, our mission is to support each child in achieving her own independence. To do this, we help her gain the knowledge, build the skills, and craft the personal character she needs to flourish. Above all, our goal is to cultivate joy—in the pursuit of knowledge, in effort applied to work worth doing, in the achievements of herself and others, and in taking the steps to author her own life.

What are the outcomes of your programs?.

Montessori education is known world-wide for having positive impacts on both academics and social and emotional skills.

At Guidepost Montessori, when we design an environment to meet the developmental needs and interests of children alongside personalized care and support, the child can learn advanced skills at an accelerated pace.

Our students, for example, regularly learn to read by the time they’re 4-years-old and can perform all four math operations with 4-digit numbers by the end of their Kindergarten year.

The language and math skills of our kindergartners are on a par with what children in conventional programs learn in 3rd grade or beyond! What’s more, our students learn advanced academics joyfully—while simultaneously developing deep focus, self-discipline, and positive social skills.

Do your programs include Kindergarten?.

Yes! The third year of our Children’s House program, designed for 3- to 6-year-olds, is the capstone kindergarten year. In this year, the child has been well-prepared to experience an explosion of literacy, learn advanced math concepts, and use her hard-won ability to focus, problem-solve, and persist through challenges to then make advanced gains across the curriculum. Children who continue with Guidepost through Kindergarten are often well-ahead of their peers when they enter 1st grade.

Following elementary, students continue on to our Montessori middle and high school, the Academy of Thought & Industry: a school that combines a classical liberal arts emphasis on history and great books, and a Montessori emphasis on independence and agency.

How does Guidepost partner with parents?.

At Guidepost, we want to make the best education the best for children and parents. This is why we provide year-round, extended-day programming at no extra cost, enabling consistent and uninterrupted access to the care and developmental support parents expect. We invite you into your child’s world—with daily photo and video updates, regular milestone meetings, and parent-child events that showcase your child’s progress. We work to understand your unique context and needs, so that we can provide support for milestones at home as well as at school.

In everything we do, we strive to cultivate joy as you watch your child grow!

My son adores it here, the teachers are amazing, and I think it's really helped him be more comfortable that there are male teachers around. It's not often that you see that and I'm really grateful that guidepost has such diversity.

I have my daughter enrolled in the toddler program at Guidepost Montessori Westlake, and she seems so happy here. At home, I have noticed loads of Montessori teaching instilled in her. The way she moves swiftly and calmly throughout a room, and the way she takes out one toy at a time, completes it, and puts it back without me asking... she would not be doing this if it wasn't for her guides implementing Montessori culture to her (she is not even two yet). In addition, it is so heartwarming when nearly everyone is so welcoming to me as a parent, and to my child. There is a strong sense of community at this school which makes me so happy to have that around my family. Importantly, there would be no community if it wasn't for Ms. Melanie, our assistant head of school. Not only has she been here since the school opened, but she has gone above and beyond for everyone here, despite having her own life and family. She is so willing and ready to step in when she is needed. She has so much patience and knowledge of the Montessori method, which is so beneficial to stepping in any community. She is a wonder woman, and I am very lucky to have her around. To add to that, Ms. Courtnee, our head of school, is phenomenal. She always takes the time to address my questions/concerns, while running a tight ship. She hasn't been here long, but I feel like she has. She is full of knowledge and has the perfect personality to be a leader. I am very lucky to have her around as well. Not to mention, Melanie and Courtnee make a fantastic admin team. Basically, if you are looking for a school for your child, I will highly recommend Guidepost Montessori at Westlake. You will love it here.

Every day is a great day at Guidepost Westlake! Not sure why this place doesn't have more reviews. An amazing preschool. My 10 month old joined the Nido program in Ms. Kristina's class. He loves going everyday and is happy and calm when I pick him up. Despite multiple babies on different schedules, the teachers really helped my child get on a daily rhythm and schedule that I recreate at home. We toured almost all the Montessori pre-schools in Austin, and this Guidepost is by far the easiest to work with and admin communicates clearly and frequently. We feel so grateful to be a part of this community.

I currently have my daughter enrolled in the Children's House program - she has been nurtured by this beautiful community since she was six months. Every morning, we are greeted by name, interaction with the kids, a consistent safety protocol, and a consistent morning routine which allows for easy transitions. There are thoughtful activities and a communicative Guide - and fruit and crackers available to help my kids start their day off well. I've found the administration and the teachers to be always available to discuss my child's growth and development, feedback, or ideas about the school - formal and informal conversations have allowed the education and care of my kids to be a true partnership. Like most preschools, turnover does happen, but the quality of the teachers and the consistency of a few key leaders has meant our family is supported and our kids are invested in as unique individuals. I have found that there is always follow-up and action, and continued openness to make things work. We are massive fans of the Montessori method and Guidepost's infrastructure of program and teacher support is unlike anything I've seen as an educator and as a parent. The facilities are clean and modern, the materials exceed expectations, and the community activities such as gardening days, petting zoos, and fall fest provide an opportunity for families to connect. We're looking forward to graduating our daughter next year and enjoying the thoughtful celebration they organzie that make the kids feel very special and ready for kindergarten and first grade! My 3yo daughter avidly reads and has been a strong communicator since 18months - this is a testament to the focused care and instruction she receives from the Guides.

My son has been enrolled here for more than two years and we are pleased with the quality of care he receives and the staff we engage with. We've experienced very little turnover in lead guides which is a rarity in childcare. My son has some anxiety about fire drills and the staff and director have gone above and beyond to support him as he grows in his understanding of the world. The classrooms have beautiful views of old oak trees, are calm, clean, and consistent with montessori principles of a prepared environment.
